Rider 4th of 13 at St. Bonaventure-Day One
OLEAN, NY-The Rider University golf team is competing at the 21st annual Leo Keenan Invitational, hosted by St. Bonaventure Sunday and Monday, and is currently in fourth place in the 13-team field.
The Broncs shot a 297 on Day One. "It is always a good thing to break 300," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "That was our goal coming in, to break 300 both days, so we're off to a good start."
Rider graduate student Eric LeFante (Colts Neck) shot a 70 on the par 70, 6,308 yard Bartlett Country Club Course and is currently fourth of 72 golfers.
Sophomore Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass/Hopkinton), who placed fifth at this tournament last year, shot a 73 and is currently in eighth place.
Sophomore Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) had a 74 and is 13th overall, and
junior Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton/Nottingham) and sophomore Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) shot 80s to tie for 48th.
Last year Rider placed fourth overall out of 14 teams. "We seem to play this course well," Whartenby said. "We've got a good chance to win this tomorrow. The weather was great today. It is not supposed to be as good tomorrow, but so far this year we've done alright in bad weather."
