Longstreth / NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region Honoree

LAWRENCEVILLE--Rider sophomore Virginia Egusquiza (Getxo, Spain), the 2009 Northeast Conference Player of the Year, was named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mid Atlantic All-Region Second Team it was announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Thursday afternoon.

"It is an honor for Virginia to be listed on the team," said head coach Lroi Hussong who just completed her 10th season as Rider's head coach.  "She worked hard during the off season as well as during the regular season to make herself and the team better."

Egusquiza, who was the NEC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NEC honoree in 2008, set the Rider single season record for assists with 17 while scoring 10 goals including four game-winners for the 17-2 Broncs.

Egusquiza is currently fourth in the nation in assists and 29th in points per game and already ranks 16th on Rider's all-time scoring list.

"Virginia is more of a team oriented player," Hussong added.  "She cares more about how the team does than about any individual accolade.  As a coach you almost want her to be more selfish.  She does all of the dirty work, setting up the plays so that others can score and with her talent and ability, she makes everyone around her that much better.  She is a play maker; a beautiful player.  People don't realize her value to us on the field."

Egusquiza spent this past summer as part of Spain's U21 National team that placed 13th in the 16-team World Cup tournament in Boston and scored on a penalty corner against Lithuania.

Egusquiza led Rider to an undefeated record in conference play (8-0) as the Broncs won the 2009 NEC Regular Season Title.

Under Hussong, the Broncs have qualified for the NEC four-team playoffs in all ten seasons and have advanced to the NEC Title Game eight times.
