Rider Hosts Fairfield Wednesday
LAWRENCEVILLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams will host defending conference champion Fairfield University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tennis match on Wednesday at 2pm on the campus courts in Lawrenceville.
This is the fall season opener for the Broncs.
The Rider men return 11 letterwinners for the 2012-13 season including sophomore Stephen Brand (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), senior Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) and senior John Spellman (Toms River/Toms River HS South).
Brand and senior Drew Laverty (Mount Royal/Kingsway Regional) along with Carpenter and senior Milo Milosovici (Florence) comprise the top returning doubles partners for the Broncs.
The Bronc women return eight letterwinners, led by senior Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) and sophomore Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold).
Caravaglio won seven matches as a Rider rookie while Roche, a 51-match veteran, enters her senior season with 14 victories in singles play.
Roche and Caravaglio are also the top two returning doubles players with each having to adjust to a new partner, with the graduation of Tricia Ashmore and Danielle White.
The teams are led into action by Ed Torres who is beginning his 18th season as head coach.
