Ritter sets Rider record in 1 mile run / Earns All-East

BOSTON, Mass.--The Rider men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in the IC4A / ECAC Championships hosted by Boston University this weekend.

"Overall, we were hoping for a better weekend," said head coach Bob Hamer.  "We did have some nice highlights."

On Sunday for the Rider women, sophomore Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) finished fourth in the 1 mile run in Rider record time of 4:50.01 and was a medalist to earn All-East recognition.

"Emily had a fantastic race," said Hamer.  "To get fourth in a meet of this caliber is a great accomplishment.  She took advantage of a great opportunity and raced extremely well.  It was truly an amazing effort."

Ritter was 2/100th of a second from placing third.

For the Rider men, junior Steven Brown (Penns Grove) was 20th in the long jump (6.58m) and sophomore George Solujich (East Windsor/Notre Dame) was 30th in the shot put (14.82m).  S. Brown earned All-East honors on Saturday in the triple jump after earning All-East in the long jump as a sophomore.

Also for the Rider women, senior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa/Central Bucks East) was 18th in the 3000 meter run (9:59.03), freshman Dashana Ransome (Irvington) was 21st in the long jump (5.00m) and senior Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) was 22nd in shot put (11.51m).

The women's distance-medley relay team of senior Paige McAtee (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), sophomore Ashley Edwards (Westfield), freshman Madeline Hummel (Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) and senior Jillian Shutt (Lawrenceville, Pa./Williamson) placed 11th in 12:06.61.

"The women's DMR was very competitive and we had some breakthrough performances by individuals on the relays," Hamer added.  "We are going to take the successes we earned during the indoor season and build on them during the outdoor season in a few weeks."

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Arkansas for qualifiers and both the Rider men and women will compete in the VCU Ram Invite on March 16 to open the 2013 outdoor season.
