Rider Cheerleaders Win Competition

OCEAN CITY, MD—The Rider University Cheerleaders competed in the American Cheer and Dance Academy's Reach the Beach College National Championship April 6-7, in Ocean City Maryland and won the College Co-Ed category for the second straight season.

“I give these students lots of credit for their dedication and perseverance,” said head coach Cherie L. Voorhees-Carcaci. “It takes a great deal of practice and most importantly teamwork to achieve these results.”

A two day competition with teams performing a routine comprised of Stunts, Tumbling, Jumps, and Dance, the competitors were judged on the skills they perform, with elements including difficulty, execution, synchronization and the level of skills.

“This team's motto was No Regrets! They just wanted to go out there and shoot for the best they could do,” said Voorhees-Carcaci. “I think it's a testament to an athletic mentality, trying to strive for your personal best, and ultimately your team's best.”

The Broncs placed first ahead of such teams as Penn State Altoona, Cornell, Princeton, SUNY Brockport and York.

In 2012 the Broncs were named Grand Champions in the College Division and this year Rider finished runner-up.

“We'd also like to send many thanks to all the families and supporters from area business and the Rider community who helped make it possible for us to attend Nationals,” Voorhees-Carcaci said.
