Broncs at Penn Relays-Day Two

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Several members of the Rider University track & field teams are taking part in the 119th Penn Relay Carnival, held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania through Saturday.

“After coming off a record breaking day with the women yesterday today was more of an average day,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer.  “We weren't bad but there was nothing outstanding today.”

In the men's shot put sophomoreGeorge Solujich (East Windsor, NJ/Notre Dame) placed 11th of 28 with a toss of 50' 4.5”. “George competed well,” Hamer said, “he just didn't get that big throw.”

 

Rider's 4 x 200 team of freshman Darnell Charles (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), junior Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington), senior Dave Brown (Ewing) and senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton) placed fifth in its heat, 25th overall (of 45) with a time of 1:28.27.

The DMR team of sophomore Nasser Zayer (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's), junior Matthew Millemann (Hillsborough), junior Matt Sampson (Manasquan, NJ) and freshman Sam Knipper (Randolph, NJ) finished in 10:20.99.

Junior Steven Brown (Penns Grove) placed 12th in the Eastern Long Jump with a distance of 22' 2.5".

The 4 x 400 of Charles, D. Brown, junior Joseph Carlin (Staten Island, N.Y./McKee), senior James Burroughs (West Orange) and junior Matthew Millemann (Hillsborough) ran a 3:19.71 to finish eighth in their heat and 49th of 69 overall.

In the College Sprint Medley Championshipof America junior Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington) , senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton), freshman Darien Edwards (South Orange, NJ/St. Benedict's) and senior Greg Wesh (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) placed fifth intheir heat, 18th overall in 3:26.22.

On Thursday Rider competed in five women's events and broke four team records.

“We hope to have a better day tomorrow with the 4 x 800 relays,” Hamer said
