Broncs at Penn Relays-Day Three
PHILADELPHIA, PA—Several members of the Rider University track & field teams took part in the 119th Penn Relay Carnival, held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania this weekend.
On Saturday the 4 x 800 relays competed and both the men and women qualified for the Eastern Championships. “The women ran really, really well,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. “That was a great race for them.”
For the Rider women, senior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), freshman Madeline Hummel (Marlton, NJ/Holy Cross) senior Paige McAtee (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Ritter (Millsboro, DE/Sussex Tech) placed fourth in their heat, 14th overall in an ECAC qualifying time of 9:09.07, six seconds off the Rider record.
“That's probably the second or third fastest time we've ever had,” Hamer said. “Meg did a great job in the leadoff leg.”
For the Rider men, junior Joseph Carlin (Staten Island, N.Y./McKee), freshman Tom McLaughlin (Egg Harbor Twp.), freshman Darien Edwards (South Orange, NJ/St. Benedict's) and senior Greg Wesh (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) were 13th in their section, 16th overall in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:39.81.
“The guys ran a solid race,” Hamer said. “We were very competitive. Any time you run an IC4A qualifier it is a good thing.”
Rider hosts the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships May 4-5.
