Rider’s Cotes All-MAAC, All-Academic
FAIRFIELD, CT—Rider University junior Andrew Cotes (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for excellence both on the soccer field and in the classroom.
Cotes was named Second Team All-MAAC and was also named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, it was announced at the MAAC Soccer Championship Banquet Thursday evening at Fairfield University.
“We think Andrew is one of the quickest players in the MAAC,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager, “as far as acceleration and speed goes. He has a tremendous attitude, tremendous work rate and is probably one of the top defenders in the MAAC.”
Cotes started all 17 games this year and played several positions. He finished second on the team in points (seven), shared the team lead in assists (three) and shared the team lead in game-winning goals (two).
“Andrew has played virtually every position on the field for us,” Fager said. “He played in the midfield as a freshman, he played up front as a sophomore and as a defender this year.”
This year Cotes scored the game-winning goals against VMI (1-0) and Niagara (3-1). As a sophomore last year he scored the game-winner against Marist and Robert Morris and went on to be named to the MAAC All-Academic team.
A Business major, Cotes owns a 3.46 grade point average.
