Derek Jenkins was named the Rider University Athlete of the Year for the 2002-2003 academic school year. Jenkins was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, advancing to the NCAA Championships as the tenth seed in the nation at 157 pounds. Jenkins was one of only three Rider wrestlers to ever qualify for Nationals all four years. He twice won CAA Titles, and is one of just six Rider wrestlers to ever compile 100 career win (110). Jenkins graduated with a degree in Marketing. In 2002-03 season Jenkins placed sixth at the prestigious Midlands Championships, and won his weight class at the Beast of the East Tournament. Jenkins was the eighth wrestler to win the Rider Athlete of the Year award since 1981.
