M. Basketball

Against Siena the Broncs lost on a three-point field goal with 1.3 seconds left. Rider went on a 8-0 run, three points by senior Kam Warner (Pleasantville), to give the Broncs a 75-69 lead with 2:00 left to play. Warner finished with 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Senior Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed a Rider-record 24 rebounds, along with five blocked shots. Trailing 23-13, Rider out-scored Siena 17-6, seven points by Jason Thompson, to take a 30-29 lead, and Rider led 38-24 at the half. Sophomore Ryan Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) added 13 points and five rebounds. Against Niagara, the defending conference champions, Jason Thompson compiled 18 points, 16 in the second half, and grabbed 14 rebounds. The victory was Rider's tenth in a row, the fourth longest current streak in Division I and Rider's longest streak since winning 10 straight during the 1983-84 season. Holding a 57-56 lead Rider went on an 11-3 run, four points by Jason Thompson and three by junior Harris Mansell (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham), to take a 68-59 lead with 5:00 remaining. Mansell also made two foul shots with 1.6 seconds left for the final score, and finished with 16 points and four assists. Ryan Thompson added 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

W. Basketball

Against Iona senior Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) scored14 points and sophomore Ashley Anderson (East Orange) added a ?double-double' with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Trailing 44-43 with five minutes remaining Rider went on a 7-0 run, four points by Anderson to take a 50-44 lead with three minutes left.  The run marked the 11th and final lead change of the game, including the ninth of the second half. Anderson shot 75 percent from the field and added two steals in 25 minutes. The Gaels entered play averaging 73 points per game and the Broncs held Iona to just 18 points in the second half.  The Broncs held the Gaels without a field goal for the final 2:18 of the game.

Wrestling

Against ODU junior Doug Umbehauer (Shamong, N.J./Lenape), ranked 12th in the nation at 184, and senior T.J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), ranked 12th in the nation at 197, both won. Against Drexel junior Jason Lapham (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) won in overtime at 165 to cut the Dragon lead to 10-8. Umbehauer  and T.J. Morrison 197, both won by major decisions to give Rider a 16-14 lead. Junior Ed Bordas (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) won 1-0 at heavyweight to seal the victory. Sophomore Tom Lorenzo (West Orange) upset the fifth ranked wrestler in the CA and sophomore Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) won 4-0 to give Rider a 5-4 lead.

Track & Field

At the New Balance Invitational the men's distance medley relay team of  freshman Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.), freshman Peter Wandell (State College, Pa./State College) freshman Mike Soroko (Kinnelon) and senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) placed second in an ICAAAA qualifying time of 10:12.23. Smith ran the final mile leg of the DMR in 4:12.9. His second 800 was faster than the first.  For his efforts, Smith was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Performer of the Week. The men's 4 x 800 relay team of Wandell, senior Ryan Donohue (Freehold), Gonzalez and Soroko ran an ICAAAA qualifying time of  7:48.14, Rider's fastest time of the year. For the Rider women, junior Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) placed fifth in the high jump (5'8.5”).  The women's 4 x 800 relay team of junior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's), freshman Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan), sophomore Lauren Lester (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohanosen) and sophomore Kelly Dissinger (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) set a new Rider record with a finished of 9:31.54, placing tenth. Freshman John Clark (Pennsville) threw a personal best 49'9” in the shot put.

Swimming

At Lafayette junior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 400 IM, breaking her own Lafayette pool record, and was named the Rider Athlete of the Month for January.
