Three Broncs MAAC All-Academic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Three members of the Rider University women's basketball team earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic honors it was announced Friday morning.

Seniors Sarah Homan and Aisha Varnadore and junior Carleigh Brown were honored by the conference for achieving a grade point average over a 3.20.

Homan, from Upper Darby, Pa. (Delco Christian) compiled a 3.61 grade point average and will graduate with a degree in Biology in May.  Homan played in a Rider record 119 games in her Bronc career (including the last 115 in a row) and graduates with 554 rebounds, 12th best all-time at Rider.

Varnadore, from Eastampton (Rancocas Valley Regional) transferred to Rider after earning an associates degree from Burlington County College.  Varnadore compiled a 3.32 g.p.a. and will earn a degree in Business Administration in May.  Varnadore played in 34 games for the Broncs, averaging almost 10 minutes per contest.

Brown, from Philadelphia, Pa. (Nazareth Academy) has compiled a 3.67 grade point average as a Public Relations major and enters her senior season with 400 career rebounds, 22nd highest all-time at Rider.  This season, Brown played in all 30 games, making 25 starts and averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the 11-19 Broncs.  Brown is an 89-game veteran.

Rider posted 11 wins this season, the most victories since compiling 14 during the 1999-2000 season.  The Broncs had the best non-conference record of the 10 teams in the MAAC at 8-3.

The Rider season came to an end in the MAAC First Round on March 1 when the Broncs lost in overtime to Iona 61-60.

The Broncs return 10 letterwinners for the 2012-13 season.
