Rider Honored with National Team GPA Recognition
12 Broncs Honored for GPA
GLEN ALLEN, Virginia--Champions on the field and in the classroom as well.
The Rider University field hockey team, 2011 champions of the Northeast Conference and an NCAA Play-In qualifier, was one of 65 teams in NCAA Division I to earn a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher and 12 members of the team earned NFHCA Academic honors for achieving a 3.30 g.p.a. or higher it was announced March 5 by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
In the 2011 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division I National Team grade point average awards, Rider earned a 3.37 on a 4.00 scale.
This was accomplished while the Broncs were winning the Northeast Conference regular season title with an undefeated 7-0 record and Rider went on to win the NEC tournament championship advancing to the NCAA Play-In game, finishing with an overall record of 19-2.
Broncs earning over a 3.30 grade point average include seniors Virginia Egusquiza (Getxo, Spain), Rebecca Lotito (Oceanport/Shore Regional), Mary Morano (Basking Ridge/Ridge) and Natasha Tukeva (Easton, Pa./Freedom), juniors Jackie Adams (Medford Lakes/Shawnee) and Gabby Burgo (Collingswood), sophomores Kristine Dougherty (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) and Alicia Govannicci (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and freshmen Katie Fanning (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan), Eefje Kok (Berkel Enschot, Netherlands), Karly Ossowski (New Egypt) and Rachel Schwab (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts).
Tukeva, an Entrepreneurial Studies major has a 3.91 g.p.a., Fanning, an Elementary Education/Psychology major has a 3.74 grade point average, Adams, a Speech and Interpersonal Communication major has a 3.65 g.p.a., Kok, a Business Administration/International Business major has a 3.62 grade point average, Schwab, a General Liberal Arts major has a 3.54 g.p.a. and Dougherty, a Business Administration major has a 3.51 grade point average.
Lotito, a Psychology and Global Studies major has a 3.49 g.p.a., Ossowski, a Communication major has a 3.46 grade point average, Burgo, a Secondary Education/Mathematics major has a 3.38 g.p.a., Morano, a Secondary Education/History major has a 3.36 grade point average, Govannicci, an Elementary Education/Psychology major has a 3.34 g.p.a. and Egusquiza, a Business Administration/International Business major has a 3.30 grade point average.
Lotito, Morano and Tukeva are four-time NFHCA Academic honorees.
Rider has advanced to the four-team NEC playoffs in all 12 seasons under head coach Lori Hussong and Hussong has led nine of her Rider teams to either an NEC Championship (2011, 2010, 2004, 2002, 2000) or an NEC Regular Season Title (2011, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2003, 2001).
