Rider in Princeton Invitational Tonight, Sunday

Broncs Travel up 206 to take on Tigers, Quakers

PRINCETON-The Rider men's soccer team has to travel all the way to the next town, approximately seven miles, to play in the Princeton Invitational Friday and Sunday.

The Broncs take on host Princeton at 7:30pm tonight and will play the University of Pennsylvania Quakers Sunday at 12 noon.

Fairleigh Dickinson is the fourth team in the tournament.

Rider has not played Princeton in 10 years. The Broncs lost four in a row and five out of six games to the Tigers before upsetting Princeton 3-2 in overtime in 2002.  That was the last time these two teams met.

"We were a last minute replacement for this tournament," said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso, "but when I was asked, how could I say no to such a great opportunity. We get to play two teams who make a habit of going to the NCAAs, two teams that play the game the right way, and two teams who we want to be able to compete with. And we don't even have to travel."

Rider and Penn have only met twice in men's soccer. The Broncs won the first meeting 3-2 in 1981 and lost the last time these two teams met, 1-0 in 1982.
