NEWARK, DE-The Rider men split with Delaware and La Salle and the Rider women were swept by La Sale and Delaware in a tri-meet at Delaware Saturday.

"Many of the races were stroke for stroke, coming down to the wire," said Rider head coach Steve Fletcher. "It was very exciting to watch. We were out-touched at the end in many events, so the meet was much closer than the score would indicate. The team scores today do not tell the whole story."'

For the Rider men senior Johnny Funk (Las Vegas, Nev./Southeast Academy) won the 100 backstroke (52.04) and the 200 individual medley (156.08).  Junior Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp., NJ/Absegami) won the one-meter dive (268.35).

For the Rider women senior Kelly O'Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) won the 200 butterfly (2:07.38) and the 200 individual medley (2:11.55).

The men's 200 medley relay team of Funk, senior Julien Hensen (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine), sophomore Zach DeLillo (Reading, PA/Wilson) and sophomore Brett Pedersen (Sewell, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) placed second (1:35.98) by 1.34 seconds.

Senior Brian Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) placed second in the 200 free (1:42.83) by 0.58 seconds, placed second in the 50 free (21.87) by .02 seconds and was second in the 500 free (4:45.51).

"The difference between first and second was so tight that the team scores could have been vastly different," Fletcher said. "We were happy with the speed of the races and are looking past the team scores."

Funk placed second in the 200 back stroke (1:53.28) by 0.86 seconds.

The men's 400 free relay placed second (3:08.76) by 0.44 seconds.

"Our team is progressing very well," Fletcher said.  "Our times today were very good. We might not have had the first place finishes but our times were very good. We are pleased with our times and how the meet went."

The Broncs take to the water again on November17, traveling to MAAC-rival Marist. "We're excited about that upcoming meet," Fletcher said.  "They have always been the team to beat in the conference and it is always a challenge to go to their pool."
