Rider Hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 15
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's basketball team will host Manhattan College as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 15 at 1pm. All activities (all-sports clinic and women's basketball game) are on as scheduled.
Prior to the game, there will be a free all sports clinic with Rider's female student-athletes for girls ages 5-18 from 11am-12:30pm in the Student Recreation Center on campus.
"We get tremendous support for all of our women's sports programs from Rider faculty, staff and alumni and our local community members so this all-sports clinic with all of our female student-athletes is our way to give back. In past years, we've gotten calls from parents telling us how much a young girl enjoyed learning about a new sport during the clinic," said Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations and Development/SWA, Karin Torchia. "The celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day also allows us to honor our women's teams and their accomplishments both athletically and academically."
As part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Rider invites girls ages 5 to 18 to a free all-sports clinic with eight of the Broncs' varsity women's athletics teams (field hockey, volleyball, soccer, tennis, softball, track & field and cross country) and cheerleading from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center adjacent to Alumni Gym on Rider's campus. Check-in and registration for the clinic will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the actual clinic activities will begin at 11 a.m. Complimentary tickets to the Rider vs. Manhattan women's basketball game at 1 p.m. will also be given to all clinic participants. Girls do not need to have any prior experience in any of the sports to participate in the clinic. All equipment will be provided during the clinic, however, if participants prefer they may bring their own equipment.
Pre-registration for the clinic is preferred, but not required and girls can just show up on the day of the clinic to participate. To pre-register for the clinic, call 609.896.5054 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
