NGWSD (Clinic and Game) Sunday
Rider Hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 7
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's basketball team will host Iona College as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 7 at 1pm.
Prior to the game, there will be a free all-sports clinic with Rider's female student-athletes for girls ages 5-17 from 11am-12:30pm in the Student Recreation Center on campus.
"We get tremendous support for all of our women's sports programs from Rider faculty, staff and alumni and our local community members so this all-sports clinic with all of our female student-athletes is our way to give back. In past years, we've gotten calls from parents telling us how much a young girl enjoyed learning about a new sport during the clinic," said Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations and Development/SWA, Karin Torchia. "The celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day also allows us to honor our women's teams and their accomplishments both athletically and academically."
As part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Rider invites girls ages 5 to 17 to a free all-sports clinic with nine of the Broncs' 10 varsity women's athletics teams (field hockey, volleyball, soccer, tennis, softball, track & field, swimming & diving and cross country) and cheerleading from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center adjacent to Alumni Gym on Rider's campus. Check-in and registration for the clinic will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the actual clinic activities will begin at 11 a.m.
Complimentary tickets to the Rider vs. Iona women's basketball game at 1 p.m. will also be given to all clinic participants. Girls do not need to have any prior experience in any of the sports to participate in the clinic. All equipment will be provided during the clinic, however, if participants prefer they may bring their own equipment. All activities with the swimming & diving team will be done on dry land, not in the water, so bathing suits are not necessary.
The women's basketball team will be on-hand for an autograph session following their game at 1pm.
Pre-registration for the clinic is preferred, but not required and girls can also just show up on the day of the clinic to participate. To pre-register for the clinic, call 609.896.5054 or e-mail email@example.com.
Tickets to the women's basketball game on February 7 at 1 p.m. are free for ALL kids 17 & under and adults attending with a clinic participant can get a general admission ticket for $4. Fans can purchase tickets or get more information on the day's events by calling the Rider Athletics ticket office at 609-896-5054.
