Jensen Awarded the Virginia J. Cyrus Scholarship
LAWRENCEVILLE—Sophomore Rachel Jensen (Buena Park, Calif./Troy) of the Rider University volleyball team continued her strong academic work off the court and in the classroom and was recently awarded the Virginia J. Cyrus Scholarship.
The Virginia J. Cyrus Scholarship was established in honor of the founding director of the Women's Studies Program and recognizes students who show academic promise of excellence and show potential to improve the status of women through scholarship and/or activism.
The scholarship, which was given at the 31st Gender and Sexuality Studies Colloquium, is awarded annually to students who are Gender and Sexuality Studies minors.
An English major and one of eight volleyball players on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team, Jensen has compiled a 3.81 grade point average.
“We are extremely proud of Rachel for this outstanding achievement,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano. “She is the definition of student-athlete and I hope that her peers continue to follow her example.”
Jensen is a 48-match veteran and helped Rider to double-digit wins this past season for the first time since 2005.
