Rider's Cunningham MAAC Rookie of Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Well, that didn't take long,

Rider University freshman Kourtney Cunningham was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for all games played the first week of the 2015 season.

“Kourtney showed the potential she has to be one of the top performing players in the MAAC in her first game as a Bronc,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.

Cunningham (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored two goals to lead Rider to a 3-2 win at Mount Saint Mary's in the season opener.

Cunningham scored 10 minutes into the game to give the Broncs a 1-0 lead. Cunningham scored again with 15 minutes left in the game to give Rider a 2-1 lead.

“She scored two goals and caused Mount Saint Mary's many problems all afternoon,” Hounsome said.  “She has excellent balance with the ball when running with pace which makes it very challenging for defenders to adjust to her changes of direction.”

Cunningham led Whitehall High to the 2014 District XI AAA Championship with a district-high 41 goals and 19 assists.

Rider (1-0), the defending MAAC Champion, takes to the pitch again Thursday at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
