Rider at Colonial Relays

Men 9th of 27, Women 17th of 27

WILLIAMSBURG, VA-The Broncs competed at the Colonial Relays this weekend, hosted by the College of William & Mary, with the Rider men finishing ninth of 27 teams and the Rider women placing 17th of 27 teams.

"We had a lot of great things today," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "We were very representative of the program. Overall we had a really good day."

On Saturday for the Rider men, the sprint medley relay team of junior James Burroughs (West Orange), junior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton), senior Ron Moore (Nashville, Tenn./John Overton)  and sophomore Joseph Carlin (Staten Island, N.Y./McKee) placed fourth (3:28.12).

For the women on Saturday freshman Sydney Grimes (West Orange, NJ) placed fourth in the discus (112'3") and junior Mia Riley (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) placed fifth in the 100m dash (12.32). "It was nice for Mia to get fifth in the 100," Hamer said.

Also for the Rider men junior Greg Smith (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley) placed fifth in the triple jump (42'6.25") and David Hightower placed ninth in 110m hurdles (14.64). "Dave ran a nice race," Hamer said.

The 4 x 100 relay team of James Burroughs, sophomore Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington), Ron Moore and David Hightower placed fifth (43.04).

The 4 x 1500 relay team of sophomore Corey O'Neil (Old Bridge, N.J. /Old Bridge), freshman Evan Cornell (Toms River East), sophomore Billy Hackmeister (Coatesville, PA) and freshman Ariel Caceres (Union City) placed ninth (17:03.35).

Sophomore Matthew Millemann (Hillsborough) placed 12th in the 110m hurdles (15.26) and freshman Dylan Hallahan (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) placed 15th in the 3,000m (8:57.75)

The 4 x 800 relay team of Joseph Carlin, sophomore Matt Sampson (Manasquan, NJ), senior David South (Sergeantsville, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and junior Greg Wesh (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished third in its heat and 12th overall (7:54.39).

The 4 x 400 relay team of Ron Moore, Matt Millemann, Joseph Carlin and freshman Michael Breen (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) finished 17th (3:23.79).

Also for the Rider women, freshman Leonora Paul (Hackensack, NJ) placed seventh in the discus (102'10"), freshman Nitessa Brooks (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) placed eighth in the discus (100'7"), sophomore Lauryn Strebeck (Dayton, OH/South Brunswick) placed eighth in the triple jump (37'1.75") and freshman Josephine Boyle (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) placed 18th in the 3,000m (10:51.35).

The women's Distance Medley Relay team of junior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), junior Ashley Hunter (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), senior Kristen Perrine (Brick/Brick Memorial) and senior Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford)  placed sixth (12:04.00).

The 4 x 400 relay of Mia Riley, Ashley Hunter, Heather Giovagnoli and freshman Ashley Edwards (Westfield, NJ) placed 11th (3:57.18).

The Broncs compete at home April 14 at the Rider Invitational. "It's going to be great to be at home," Hamer said. "We have a good group of teams coming."
