Rider's Burroughs, Riley Honored by the MAAC

EDISON--Juniors James Burroughs (West Orange) and Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) of the Rider University track and field teams were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the week it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

Both were recognized for the period April 16-22.

Burroughs finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 14.63 at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational and was also 11th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.45.

"James has had a really nice outdoor season so far," said head coach Bob Hamer.  "He has been very consistent.  He deserves the recognition and I think he is capable of hitting a new level in the next few weeks."

Riley was eighth in the 100 meter race with an ECAC qualifying time of 12.03 at the Larry Ellis Invitational.

"Mia had a breakthrough performance this past week," Hamer said.  "She is poised to hit some big marks as we head into the championships over the next few weeks."

This is the second time this season (April 3) and third time in her career that Riley has earned MAAC Performer of the Week honors.

Burroughs earned MAAC Performer of the Week honors on December 13, 2011, during the indoor track and field season.

Rider competes at the TCNJ Invitational Friday and Saturday with several Broncs also competing at the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday.

Rider hosts the MAAC championships May 5-6.
