LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to first place Monmouth Sunday afternoon.
Rider (8-7, 2-2 MAAC) tied the score at 1-1 in the 10th minute of play when junior Melissa Cunningham (Oaklyn/Collingswood) collected her own rebound and scored her fourth goal of the season.
Cunningham scored again in the final seconds of the game on a penalty corner for the final score. Freshman Tess Coorens (The Netherlands) was credited with the assist, her fourth.
Cunningham now has nine career goals.
Monmouth (12-2, 3-0 MAAC) scored in the 52nd minute of play for a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks scored just 1:37 into the game on a penalty corner and took a 2-1 lead midway through the first half.
Both teams had nine shots. Rider had 14 penalty corners to seven for Monmouth.
Rider freshman Emily Gilligan (West Deptford) made two saves.
Rider had won the last six times the Hawks have traveled west across the Garden State to Lawrenceville; 1-0 in 2014, 5-2 in 2012, 3-2 in the 2012 MAAC Title Game, 2-1 in the 2011 NEC Title Game, 3-0 in 2010 and 1-0 in the 2010 NEC Title Game.
Rider came into the game 4-0 at home this year and was on a two-game winning streak.
Monmouth has won its last five games and was coming off of a 9-0 win at LIU Brooklyn last Sunday.
Last year Rider lost 4-3 at Monmouth.
Rider holds a 25-10-3 advantage in the series with Monmouth that began in 1977.
Rider plays at LIU Brooklyn Thursday evening.
