LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—With just three minutes left in a scoreless tie, the game was looking for a hero. On Senior Night, a senior stepped up.
His name? Bond. Zach Bond.
The Rider University men’s soccer team went to 6-0 at home this season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Fairfield Saturday night in front of close to 1,000 fans at Ben Cohen Field.
Rider senior Zach Bond (Holmdel, NJ) celebrated Senior Night when he scored in the 87th minute of play on assists from junior Jose Aguinaga (Madrid, Spain) and junior Elliott Otmani (LaCiotat, France).
It was the fourth career game-winning goal for Bond.
Rider senior Ryan Baird (Plainfield, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) made six saves, including one at point blank range with two minutes left to play, for his sixth shutout of the season and his 11th career shutout.
Fairfield (5-7-2, 3-4 MAAC) out-shot Rider (10-3-2, 5-1-2 MAAC) 12-8. The Stags had 11 corner kicks to just three for the Broncs.
The victory was Rider’s third in a row. Rider is 4-0-1 in the last five games and 6-1-2 in the last nine games.
Saturday night was just the eighth time Rider defeated the Stags, and the second in a row, in 25 meetings.
Rider travels to Quinnipiac October 29.
