HAMDEN, CT—The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at second place Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon.
Quinnipiac (19-9, 11-4 MAAC) won 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23.
The Broncs (13-13, 7-7 MAAC) were trailing the third set 20-16 but came back to win 25-23 to force a fourth set.
“We came back to win that set and I thought we were coming back in the fourth set as well,” said Rider head coach Chris Feliciano.
“In this point of the season we just need to move on,” Feliciano said. “In the fourth set we made some critical errors when it was tied at 20-20. We need to tidy some things up.”
It marked the second day in a row that Rider faced one of the top two teams in the MAAC on the road. “I think we are capable,” Feliciano said. “We have had more positive moments and we are showing areas of improvement.”
For Rider, senior Ryan Ackermann (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) had 12 kills and seven digs. “Ryan Ackermann played well today,” Feliciano said.
Quinnipiac defeated Rider 3-2 in Lawrenceville on September 17.
Quinnipiac holds an 8-6 advantage in the series.
Rider travels to Iona Wednesday, the final away match of the regular season. “We have a must win on Wednesday to make the playoffs,” Feliciano said.
Rider finishes the season with three home matches, where the Broncs are 6-2.”We’ve played well at home and hopefully we can defend the home court, Feliciano said.”
