McGarrity finishes 2nd at ECAC Championships
BRONX, NY – The Broncs competed at the ECAC/IC4A Championships Saturday morning at Van Cordlandt Park. The Rider women were led by senior Megan McGarrity (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil’s Academy), who placed second of 82 runners with a time of 18:21 on the 5K course.
“Meg ran a tremendous race,” said Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer. “She has run great all year and she capped that off with today’s performance. She executed the race plan perfectly and put herself into position to be very successful today. I’m really proud of her efforts this season. She has taken her running to a whole new level.”
The Rider men were paced by junior Danniel Belay (Gaithersburg, MD), who finished 18th of 190 runners, covering the 8K course in 26:27.
“Belay ran a strong race today,” said Hamer. “He has really struggled in the second half of races this year but today he put it all together and he was rewarded with a great result.”
Not far behind was senior Bradley Kaufmann (East Meadow, NY), who finished 32nd in 26:53. Junior Mike Pinnola (Manalapan, NJ/Colts Neck) was 42nd in 27:03, with freshman Isaiah Jean-Baptiste seven spots back at 49th in 27:12. Senior Connor Szwetkowski (Middletown, DE/Caravel Academy) rounded out the Broncs in the Top 100, finishing 74th in a time of 27:38.
“The men raced very competitively today,” said Hamer. “They have made great strides this year and we are hoping this is the foundation for future success.”
