PROVIDENCE, RI - The Rider University swimming & diving team had a rather unique schedule to start this season, as they have had six dual meets and this Bruno Invitational in the last two months, all on the road. The last obstacle standing in their way was Day 3 of the Bruno Invitational, hosted by Brown University this weekend.

The men's side finished fourth out of five, behind the host Brown University, Princeton University, and Columbia University while finishing above Dartmouth College, all of the Ivy League. Junior Zack Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) continued his record-setting pace by winning the 100 free in 43.84, beating a Rider record established in 2009. Freshman Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) set a new PR in the 200 butterfly (1:51.63), which was good enough for sixth in the preliminaries and final for the event. Senior Zach Mabin (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) took fourth in the preliminaries for the 200 breaststroke before settling for a seventh place finish in the finals (2:04.38). Sophomore Lucas Musselman (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) resumed his solid weekend with a tenth place result in the preliminary and final for the 200 backstroke (1:49.21).

The women finished fifth out of six teams over the weekend, besting Columbia, while trailing Brown, Princeton, Rutgers University, and Dartmouth respectively. Juniors Julianna Runk (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) and Tara Maniace (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) did well in the 200 breaststroke, taking 11th (2:25.14) and 14th (2:29.16) in the final respectively. Sophomore Breanne Hatter (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown HS South) claimed 13th in the 3m dive (211.50).

Two events the Broncs did well in across both sides were the 1650 freestyle and the 400 free relay. In the 1650 free, three men found themselves getting the Broncs points, as senior Sam Cramer (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) staked sixth (15:54.57), sophomore Griffin Hutton (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton HS West) finished ninth (16:12.16), and senior Michael Regan (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound) claimed 13th (16:29.52). For the women, freshman Casey Wrabley (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) took 10th (18:08.67).

In the 400 free relay for the women, the set of freshman Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic), senior Ariana Palmer (Burlington,NJ/Burlington Township), senior Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), and sophomore Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) finished 10th (3:34.38) while the group of sophomore Victoria Evans (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), Maniace, sophomore Amy Rheel (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame), and junior Baileigh Vanderhoof (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) took 12th (3:42.08). For the men, sophomore Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick), senior Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, MD/Old Mill), senior William Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North), and younger brother Zack Molloy finished sixth (3:03.31) while the team of senior Denny Atkinson (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield), Cramer, senior Harun Filipovic (Princeton, NJ/[Bucknell] Princeton), and junior Maciej Paz (Garfield, NJ/Paramus Catholic) took eighth with a time of 3:09.69.

The Broncs will take a few weeks off for final exams before taking their annual winter training trip to Puerto Rico to prepare for their first home meet of the 2016-17 season against Seton Hall at the Richard Coppola Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM on Friday, January 13.
