TOWSON, MDRobin Perkins (Willingboro, NJ/Trenton Catholic [Saint Francis Univ.]) scored a game-high 23 points and Kamila Hoskova (Brno, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka) added 21 points as the Rider University women’s basketball team held off Towson, 79-75, on the road Sunday afternoon for the Broncs’ fourth-straight win. With the victory, the Broncs improve to 7-2, while the Tigers dip to 6-4.

Perkins was 5-for-11 from long range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while Hoskova also made a pair of triples and made all seven of her free-throw attempts. Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) added seven points and season-highs in both rebounds (12) and assists (5). She also had three steals. Lexi Posset (Pittsburgh, PA/Beaver Area) also chipped in with nine points off the bench.

“A great team win today versus a really good Towson team,” said Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan. “We were challenge the entire game and scored enough and got enough stops to pull out a victory. I am very proud of how this team has responded. This has been a very long road swing for us. They trust each other on both ends of the floor.”

After Towson took a 4-2 lead in the early going, the Broncs went on a 14-0 run and scored 19 of the final 21 points in the period to take a 21-6 lead after the first quarter. Perkins buried a pair of threes and finished with eight points in the quarter, while Hoskova scored seven.

The lead swelled to as many as 21 points on a Hoskova lay-up at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter, before Towson responded with a 18-3 spurt to whittle the Broncs’ lead down to six, 37-31, with 2:29 left in the half. But Rider restored order with the last six points in the period to retake a 43-31 lead at the break. Johnson scored four points in the run.

The Broncs outshot Towson, 50.0 percent (13-26) to 31.4 percent (11-35) in the first half.

Rider led by between seven and 13 points for the first 18-plus minutes of the second half, before Towson gave its final push, closing to within four on two occasions in the final minute of regulation. But the Broncs made 6-of-8 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

For the game, Rider outshot Towson, 42.9 percent (24-56) to 39.7 percent (29-73) from the floor, 43.5 percent (10-23) to 28.6 percent (6-21) from long range and 84.0 percent (21-25) to 68.8 percent (11-16) from the free-throw line. Rebounds were an even 39-39.
