LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University track and field team competing against neighboring TCNJ in a dual meet on Friday evening at the Edward J. Lavino Field House.

“We had a real good effort in many events tonight,” Bronc Head Coach Bob Hamer said. “The goal coming in is always to win and we accomplished that tonight.  We had many wins and this allowed many athletes to gain some much needed confidence heading into the championship portion of the season.”

In the 55M hurdles, Rider swept the event with Broncs finishing in the top-three. Senior Daria Chadwick (Summit, NJ/Summit) finished first with a time of 8.17, while junior Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Mount St. Mary's/Delaware Valley) came in second at 8.18 and classmate Lexie Fraction (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) finished third at 8.21. All three times were ECAC qualifiers.

On the men’s side in the same event, senior Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin) posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 7.57.

Tierra Taylor was a standout performer tonight,” Hamer noted. “We will need her sprint points big time in the MAAC meet so it was really nice to watch her continue to step up like she has done every meet this year.”

In the women’s weight throw for Rider, both junior Karoline Sandvig (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro HS South) and freshman Fidele Jules (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) posts ECAC-qualifying throws. Sandvig finished first with a toss of 16.80M and Jules was close behind at 16.78M.

The men’s team received strong showings from junior David Gaynor (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Vo Tech.) and sophomore Marcell Brown (Montclair, NJ/Montclair). Gaynor finished with a toss of 15.84M and Brown had a throw of 15.70M. Both of those were IC4A-qualifiers.

“We need to carry the momentum from this meet forward into our training and competition over the next few weeks so we are ready for the MAAC Championships on Feb 18,” Hamer added.

The Broncs return to action next Friday, February 10, traveling to the Empire State to compete in the Fast Track National Qualifier at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
