CHARLOTTE, NC – The Rider University baseball team capped a four-game, season-opening series against Charlotte with a 12-2 loss on Sunday at Hayes Stadium. The Broncs (0-4) dropped their fourth in a row to the 49ers (6-2) and smacked seven or more hits for the second time in the first four contests.

Rider jumped out to an early, 2-0, lead in the top of the first behind an RBI single to center by Harrison McClure (Atlanta, GA/South Florida State/North Atlanta) and a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Lee Lipinski (Glen Arm, MD/Calvert Hall).

The hosts would respond with single runs in the first and second innings to tie it before erupting for eight in the third to chase the Bronc starter, McClure, from the game. In the third inning, Charlotte had eight runs on five hits. The big blow in the frame was a three-run bomb to right field by Brett Netzer.

On the bump, McClure was saddled with the loss after tossing 2.1 innings and surrendering eight runs while giving up six hits. For the 49ers, Matt Brooks threw four innings of scoreless relief to notch his first triumph of the spring.

NOTES & QUOTES
“Not good enough right now,” Rider University Head Coach Barry Davis said. “We have a lot of work to do. The team learned a lot and it’s not all necessarily good. We better strap it on from here on out.”

- McClure has recorded an RBI in back-to-back games.
- Rider has surrendered six runs in the first inning this season, including three straight games in which the opposing team has scored in their first at-bat.
- Kyle Johnson and Mike Volaski are tied for the team-lead with four hits after the weekend.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Rider has scored first in two of its four games this year.
- The Broncs have plated four runs in the first inning this spring.
- Bronc relievers Mike Diorio and Anthony Arneth both tossed 1.2 innings of relief and gave up two earned runs.
- Josh Sharik recorded one out of relief without giving up a run for Rider.
- Seven different Broncs recorded a hit in the game.

ON DECK
Rider returns to action on Tuesday, February 28, with a home non-conference clash against Lafayette with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm at Sonny Pittaro Field. The Broncs are looking to avenge a 6-3 setback against the Leopards last season.
