LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University track and field team is hosting the Rider Invitational on Saturday, April 8. The meet begins at 11:00 AM with both track and field events running simultaneously and concludes at 5:50 pm with the men’s 4x400m relay. Twenty-One different colleges and universities are represented in this year’s field.

“We are very excited to host an invitational meet that gives us a chance to showcase our athletes on our home track,” Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer said. “It will be a meet filled with some high-quality athletes and teams from the east coast. It is always special for our athletes to compete in front of a home crowd of family and friends.”

On the women’s side, Rider will be led by junior Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Mount St. Mary's/Delaware Valley), redshirt senior Daria Chadwick (Summit, NJ/Summit), senior Megan McGarrity (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil's Academy), freshman Asia Young (Pleasantville, NJ/Holy Spirit) and sophomore thrower Ashley Berry (Somerset, NJ/Franklin).

Last week, Gardner set a new Rider record in the 100M hurdles with a time of 13.99 to finish second at the 52nd Annual Colonial Relays. Also at the event, Berry finished in the top-10 in both the discus throw and the hammer throw. Young continued her strong first-year campaign with a seventh-place finish in the long jump, while Chadwick finished fifth in the 100M hurdles and McGarrity had a solid performance in the 5,000M.

Performers to watch for the Bronc men are sophomore Nate Bowie (Matawan, NJ/Matawan), senior Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, NJ/Magnet), junior Tyree Adams (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) , senior Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin) and senior Erik Adamcik (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon).

Bowie continued the hot start to his outdoor slate with a third-place finish in the 110M hurdles thanks to posting an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.65 at the 52nd Annual Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary. Also at the event, Adams, the reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Indoor Field Most Outstanding Performer, finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.78M.

The Rider relay quartets have also ran strong races during the indoor campaign and the start of the outdoor season.

Last season, the men finished in first in the 15-team field and the women landed in second-place out of 14 teams. In 2015, the men won the Rider Invitational and the women were fourth of 22 teams. In 2014 both the Rider men and women placed first of 19 teams. In 2013 the men and women placed first of 14 teams. The men also placed first in 2011 and 2010. The women finished first in 2009.
