LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University baseball team fell at home to regional rival Saint Joseph's, 13-5, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Sonny Pittaro Field. The Broncs (16-20-1) dropped their fourth straight contest, while the visiting Hawks (13-20) won their fourth consecutive tilt.

The guests broke open a back-and-forth game with five unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a lead they would not surrender. A lot of pitchers saw action in the game, 13 combined. Over the final five innings, four Saint Joseph's relievers kept Rider off the board and fanned six Broncs.

Offensively, freshman leadoff hitter Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), sophomore shortstop Richie Tecco (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) and Lee Lipinski (Glen Arm, MD/Calvert Hall) combined for six of the team's of the seven Bronc hits. Johnson went 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, Tecco was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Lipinski was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

On the mound, sophomore reliever Dylan Simcik (Newtown, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) was saddled with the loss for Rider. He did not record an out. Coming on in the fourth, Simcik surrendered one earned run while scattering two hits and walking two batters.

“We did not really give ourselves a chance to win,” Rider Head Coach Barry Davis said. "We gave up 11 walks and 17 hits. We just are not playing good baseball right now. It was too much to overcome."

- Paul Sparano came on in relief and got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the first. He kept the Broncs in the game early, working three scoreless innings while scattering two hits and striking out three hitters.
- Mike Diorio also got out of a no out bases loaded jam for the Broncs. He came on in the fourth and got a double play on a line drive to second on a nice play by Johnson. Diorio fanned the next batter he faced. In total, Diorio tossed two innings and allowed four runs (just one earned).
- Lipinski accounted for the five Rider runs in the game thanks to an error that plated two runs, an RBI single and a two-out, two-run double down the left-field line. The multi-hit game was his ninth of the season. It also marked his second game with three RBIs this spring.
- Out of the bullpen, lefty Jordan Silverman tossed 2.1 innings and struck out five hitters, while allowing two earned runs.
- After Rider battled back to tie the game at three, the Hawks outscored the Broncs, 10-2, behind five unanswered runs.

- Harrison McClure now leads the team with 26 runs scored this season. He has now scored two or more runs in a game seven times this season including Wednesday. He has also reached base two or more times in three of his last four games thanks to picking up a pair of walks on Wednesday.
- The multi-hit game was the 13th of the season for Johnson. He now leads the team with 40 hits this spring. Entering the contest, he had been 1 for his last 17.
- Tecco's multi-hit was his seventh of the season and his second in the last three games for the Broncs.
- Josh Sharik made his team-leading 23rd appearance out of the bullpen for the Broncs. He struck out two batters in the ninth after allowing a solo shot.
- Rider used seven pitchers on the day. The only one to not give up a run was Sparano.

Rider welcomes Manhattan to campus for a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekend series that is slated to get underway with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 pm from Sonny Pittaro Field. The Jaspers and Broncs did not meet last season. In 2015, Rider took two of three from Manhattan in Wappingers Falls, New York.
