In the battle for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, four Broncs scored in double figures to lead Rider to victory at Marist Wednesday night. Senior Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) compiled 20 points and nine rebounds, including his 1,000th carom. Junior Harris Mansell (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) scored 15 points, sophomore Ryan Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) added 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, freshman Justin Robinson (London, England/Blair Academy) scored 11 points and senior Kamron Warner (Pleasantville) came in off the bench to add nine points in eight key minutes, making three three-point field goals. The Broncs entered the game ranked 17th in the nation in field goal percentage and shot 51.9 percent. Marist held its last three opponents below 30 percent shooting from the field. Rider never trailed in the contest. Rider out-rebounded Marist 38-27, and is now 12-1 when it out-rebounds its opponent.

The Broncs swept Campbell and Binghamton on day two of the CAA Duals hosted this weekend by George Mason. Senior 197 T.J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won both his matches by fall with junior 184 Doug Umbehauer (Shamong/Lenape) also winning by fall and major decision. Senior 149 Don Fisch (Williamstown/Delsea) won by fall in 15 seconds against Bob Matthews of Campbell and upset number one ranked Kyle Fried of Binghamton 7-2. Fried entered the weekend 13th ranked in the nation at 149. Fisch finished last season fifth in the nation at 141, earning All-American honors and recently picked up his 100th career win. Junior 165 Jason Laphram (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown/Penn State), freshman 125 Ilyass Elmsaouri (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff), junior 133 Zac Cunliffe (Farmingdale/Howell) and junior heavyweight Ed Bordas (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central/Binghamton) also posted two wins on Saturday for Rider.

At Lafayette junior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 100 butterfly (57.19), 200 butterfly (2:05.43) and 400 IM (4:26.33), senior Rebecca Sanbower (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) won the 500 free (5:15.20) and the 1650 free (17:41.46), sophomore Kellyanne Tomasula (Sussex/Vernon Twp.) won the 100 back (58.36) and 200 back (2:08.29) and junior diver Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) won the three-meter (310.20) and one-meter (291.45). For the Rider men’s team, senior diver and tri-captain Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) won the one-meter (344.80), senior tri-captain Peter Starr (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) won the 100 back (54.71), junior Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) won the 200 back (1:57.72) and sophomore Alex Grubbs (York, Pa./York Suburban) won the 100 breast (1:01.30). Also for the women’s team, freshman Brianna Burns (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) won the 200 free (1:56.46). Also for the men’s team, freshman Arthur Arciszewski (Phillipsburg) won the 1650 free (16:47.06), freshman Dave Farfan (Houston, Texas/Lamar) won the 200 butterfly (1:55.23), freshman Drew Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 50 free (21.77), freshman Mike Tubb (Swedesboro/St. Augustine Prep.) won the 200 breast (2:16.61) and freshman C.J. Kohner (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy Senior) won the 500 free (4:49.79). The women’s 200 medley relay of Tomasula, freshman Carmen Menendez (Fairfax, Va./Oakton), Modrov and Burns won with a time of 1:50.01.The men’s 200 medley relay of Starr, senior tri-captain Matt Bauer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Rosenbluth and sophomore Scott Player (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala) won with a time of 1:37.30.

The Broncs competed at the Great Dane Classic Friday evening, hosted by the University at Albany at the New York City Armory. For the Rider women, sophomore Karlise Cureton (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) broke the Rider record in the 55m hurdles, running an 8.37 in the preliminaries and finished seventh in the finals. For the men, senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) won the 3,000m in 8:32.21. Also for the men freshman Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) placed third in the 800m (1:54.75), freshman Peter Wandell (State College, Pa./State College) placed third in the 1,000 (2:31.32), freshman John Clark (Pennsville) placed fifth in the shot put (40’ 2.5”) and 16th in the wt. throw 46’ 4.25”) and freshman Mike Soroko (Kinnelon) placed sixth in the mile (4:23.78). Also for the women, sophomore Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's Acad.) placed third in the 5,000m (19:00.77), sophomore Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) was fifth in the shot put (40’ 11.5”) and ninth in the weight throw (43’ 7”), junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven) placed fifth in the 3,000 with a personal record (10:36.84) and senior Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) was seventh in the pole vault (9’10”).
