M. Basketball

At Loyola senior Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) compiled 24 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Harris Mansell (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) added 18 points, 15 in the first half. Freshman Matt Griffin (Philadelphia, PA/St. Joseph's Prep) hit a three-point field goal, his only points of the game, with 2:20 left to give Rider a 67-65 lead. At Fairfield Mansell made a three-point field goal with 1:57 to cut the lead to 79-73, but that was as close as the Broncs could get. Mansell fished with 16 points.

Against Marist senior Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) scored 14 points and had five rebounds. At Loyola, Henderson and sophomore Amanda Sepulveda (Perth Amboy/Hun) each had 13 points with sophomore Tammy Meyers (Willingboro) notching her first career ‘double-double’ with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Against Nebraska sophomore 133 Thomas Lorenzo (West Orange) executed a takedown with one second remaining in his dual, winning a come from behind match 11-10. Junior 184 Doug Umbehauer (Shamong/Lenape) won a 3-2 decision over 10th ranked Vince Jones, sophomore 157 Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won with a take down in overtime 5-3 over #17 Chris Oliver and freshman 141 Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville,Pa./Boyertown) won a 4-2 decision. At Lehigh Rodgers, Umbehauer, senior T.J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and junior Ed Bordas (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) won.

Swimming

At the MAAC Championships junior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won five gold medals and set three MAAC records, junior Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) won four gold medals, and they were both named the Most Outstanding Swimmers. Senior Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) won the 3-meter and set a new MAAC record in winning the 1-meter dive, and junior Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) set MAAC records in winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter and they were both named the MAAC Most Outstanding Divers. Sophomore Kellyanne Tomasula (Sussex/Vernon Township) won four MAAC gold medals with two MAAC records, freshman Brianna Burns (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) won three gold medals and set a MAAC record in the 100 free, and sophomore Scott Player (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S Ayala) won two gold medals.

At the Rider/Lafayette Winter Games senior Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) broke her own Rider record and placed seventh in the pole vault (3.30m). For the Rider men, senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) ran an IC4A qualifying time in the 3,000m of 8:27.15, placing third and senior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) placed fifth in the 1,000m (2:31.18). Junior Tabatha Haskins (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) placed fourth in the triple jump (11.31m), sophomore Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed fifth in the wt. throw (14.22m) and ninth in the shot put (12.13m) and junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven) placed fifth in the 3,000m (10:37.86), sophomore Karlise Cureton (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) placed 13^th in the 60m hurdles (9.31), senior Elizabeth Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) placed 14^th in the wt. throw (12.36m), sophomore Lauren Lester (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohanosen) placed 18^th in the mile (5:18.73). Also for the Rider men, freshman John Clark (Pennsville) placed 11^th in the wt. throw (15.22m).
