At Howard junior Abi
Cottam (Leominster, England/Ludlow) scored twice, including the
game-winner in overtime. Rider trailed 2-0 with just 8 minutes left
before Cottam scored and then assisted on the tying goal by junior
Meghan Mohr (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem). At NJIT Cottam scored on a PK and
sophomore Bridgette Bartkowski (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored to give
the Broncs a 2-0 lead. It was her first career goal after compiling five
assists as a Rider rookie. At Bryant sophomore Jennifer Meier
(Sayville, NY/St. Anthony's) scored three goals, just the sixth ‘hat
trick’ in program history, and was named the MAAC Player of the Week.
Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Singson (Deer Park, NY/St. Anthony's)
started the first three games and earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

The Broncs began the Coach
Charlie Inverso era with an upset win at Seton Hall. Senior Jonathan
Burd (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) scored on an assist from
junior Ryan Fitzgerald (Yardville, N.J./Steinert) to give the Broncs a
1-0 lead in the 39th minute of play. Junior Matt Perrella (North
Brunswick, N.J./N. Brunswick) made three saves for his sixth career win
and second career shutout. At Lafayette junior Brandon Sebastian (Monroe
Twp.) scored on a PK and scored on another PK at Mount St. Mary’s

Volleyball
Against Saint Peter’s sophomore Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) had a 'double-double' of 12 digs and 10 kills with sophomore Megan Knott (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) adding a match-high 16 kills while hitting .304.
Rider won the first match
under new head coach Chris Feliciano at the St. Francis tournament. The
Broncs prevailed against St. Francis (NY) 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 22-25,
15-12 in a two-hour match that featured 16 ties and nine lead changes
before Fordham defeated the Broncs 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12.
Against St. Francis freshman Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) had a
'double-double' (15 kills, 11 digs) with junior Stephanie Nagy
(Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) adding 11 kills and a .611 attack
percentage. Against Fordham freshman Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee,
Calif./Temecula Valley) had 26 assists. Against Lehigh freshman Kayla
Wong (Tustin, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) had 13 kills and seven digs.

Cross Country
The men finished 1-2-3 and
the women finished 1-2 as the Broncs began the 2011 cross country
season at the TCNJ Blue/Gold Classic. For the Rider men, who graduated
their top two runners from last year, freshman Anthony Dentino (Sewell,
NJ/Washington Twp.) won his first collegiate race, covering the 5,000
meter course in 15:55.9. Right behind Dentino were junior Sean Donohue
(Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Matawan) and junior Greg Wesh (Horsham,
PA/Hatboro-Horsham). Donohue finished in 15:58.30 and Wesh in 15:59.50.
For the Rider women, senior Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, PA/Spring
Ford) won the 5,000 meter race in 18:58 and was named the MAAC runner of
the week. Junior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) was
second overall in 19:04.0.
