The Rider men's soccer team celebrated the 2011 season at the annual team banquet recently. The 2011 Broncs won a MAAC playoff game, their first since 2007.
Head Coach Charlie Inverso congratulated the entire team on giving a maximum effort for the entire season and lauded the seven graduating seniors for their leadership and for setting the tone for the program for the future.
"The seven graduating seniors are guys that we all consider great people who will always be friends of the soccer program and they will be sorely missed around here," Inverso said.
The Vinnie Palmere Award is presented to a Rider player who best displays the characteristics of the late Vinnie Palmere, a former Rider soccer player of the 1980s who died tragically just one year after his graduation.
Jim Palmere, a standout Rider player form the 1970s, traveled from Michigan to present the award named for his brother. Jim was a senior and Vinnie was a freshman on the 1980 Rider soccer team.
