LAWRENCEVILLLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Niagara University on Saturday afternoon.

For the Rider men, junior Mike Gershon  (East Brunswick) remained undefeated in MAAC play in his career with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 win at sixth singles.

"Mike played well," said head coach Ed Torres.  "Niagara has a strong team as you can tell by the scores but he battled and played hard and remains undefeated in conference play in his career."

For the Bronc women, junior Alexa Manforti (Toms River/Toms River HS South) and senior Maria Eldridge (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) were the only players to take even a game off the Purple Eagles.

"On the women's side, we were dominated," Torres said.  "Niagara didn't field a team last year for women's tennis but boy do they have six good players now.  We made way too many errors and you see the scores that resulted."

The Rider men host Marist in a MAAC match on March 16.
