Rider's Breeden Honored as MAAC Rookie of the Week
LAWRENCEVILLE--Freshman Allysen Breeden (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) of the Rider University softball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for all games April 10-15 it was announced Monday afternoon.
Breeden hit .364 with two multiple hit games this past week as Rider split four contests with Delaware and Marist.
Breeden homered against the Blue Hens on April 11 and walked and scored twice against Marist in game two of the MAAC doubleheader this past Sunday after going two for four with a walk in the opening game.
"She is having a good year and is really giving the offense the spark that it needs," said head coach Tricia Carroll. "She works very hard and that hard work is not only paying off for her but for the team as well. I am very happy for her."
Breeden has started all 40 games for the 15-24-1 Broncs who are tied for first place in the MAAC at 4-2 with 10 conference games to play.
Breeden leads Rider with a .339 average (38/112) and also leads the team with six doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI and 12 walks and is third on the team with 12 runs scored.
For the week, Breeden had an on-base percentage of (.533) and a slugging percentage of (.636).
This is the third time this season that Breeden has earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors (February 28, March 6).
Rider travels to New Rochelle, New York on Saturday for a MAAC doubleheader against Iona College at 1pm.
