Rider Swims to Success in the Classroom

LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's swimming and diving team was recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for compiling a team grade point average over a 3.00, it was announced on July 10.

Rider, which competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, compiled a team g.p.a. of 3.12 and the Broncs were one of 130 schools to earn the recognition for the spring, 2012 semester.

"As coaches, we are proud of the focus our student-athletes maintain in the classroom despite their commitment to a long season of training and competition," said head coach Steve Fletcher.  "Our upperclassmen reinforce this message as an important value in our team culture."

Clemson University and the University of Alabama tied for the highest g.p.a. in Division I (3.62).

The Rider women also earned CSCAA Scholar All America Team academic honors this past fall, compiling a 3.04 grade point average.

Led by a 3.64 grade point average from then junior Katlyn Andrews (Lawrenceville), the Rider women placed five student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic team (3.20 g.p.a. or higher) in 2011-12.

This past February, the Rider women placed runner-up at the MAAC Championships and the Broncs were fifth (out of 18 teams) at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.

The Rider women return 14 letterwinners for the 2012-13 season.
