Back To School Special Sunday
Home Doubleheader on Ben Cohen Field
"It's a great day, let's play two."
Ben Cohen Field will be the site of another doubleheader Sunday afternoon, as the field hockey team hosts Colgate at 12 noon and the women's soccer team hosts Fairleigh Dickinson at 3pm.
The women's soccer team is 3-0 for just the second time in the 16 years of varsity status and will look to be 4-0 for the first time ever.
FDU began the season 1-1-3, defeating Delaware State 5-0 Friday evening.
Rider and FDU tied 0-0 last year in Teaneck. Rider defeated FDU 2-0 in Lawrenceville in 2010, after losing 3-0 at FDU in 2009.
Rider leads the all-time series 3-1-1.
The field hockey team (1-1) did not get to play at Colgate last year due to a hurricane. Two years ago when Colgate visited Lawrenceville the Broncs won 5-0.
Colgate holds a 12-7 advantage in the series with Rider that began in 1985. Rider has won the last two, with the Red Raiders defeating Rider in 2008.
The Rider field hockey, which has never lost on Ben Cohen Field (18-0), is coming off a 2-0 victory over Villanova. Junior Alicia Govannicci (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) scored the fourth game-winning goal of her career in the 2012 home opener against the Wildcats.
The women's soccer team has been led by senior goalkeeper Jenn Nichols, who has three shutouts in as many games this year and was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman Tara Ballay has two game-winning goals already and was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week the first week of the season.
Sunday is the last doubleheader on Ben Cohen Field until September 30, so come out and enjoy two games in a Back to School Special.
As always, both the field hockey and the women's soccer contests will be video streamed on BroncVision and live stats will be available via GameWatcher.
