Rider Men's Basketball
Complete Schedule Announced

LAWRENCEVILLE-The complete 2012-13 Rider University men's basketball schedule has been announced and Rider will be on ESPN3 four times in addition to one game on ESPN.

"It's official now that our schedule is complete," said first-year head coach Kevin Baggett, a 19-year veteran on the Division I level who makes his head coaching debut November 9. "The players and I are gearing up for what should be an exciting season."

The Broncs begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action with two games in December, at Siena on the 7th and home against Fairfield on the 9th.

"We have two really tough conference games early against Siena and Fairfield, both who I think will be at the top half of our league," Baggett said. "Playing these two opponents will give us a barometer on how we will shape up in our league."

The full MAAC schedule kicks in January 4 with Rider's final conference trip to Loyola. January has five home games and three on the road, while February has three home games.

On January 10 the Broncs will play at Manhattan on ESPN3, and January 17 Rider will be on ESPN3 at Saint Peter's.  On February 9 the Broncs will play on ESPN3 at Iona and Rider will host ESPN3 and Marist on Senior Day February 17.

The regular season concludes with the Western New York trip, at Canisius Thursday night, February 28 and at Canisius Saturday.

The non-conference portion of the schedule consists of five home games, local trips to Princeton, New Brunswick, Philadelphia and Delaware and a four-game tournament culminating in Mexico.

"We have a very tough non-conference schedule, with most of those teams having an opportunity to win their conference," Baggett said.

The Broncs open the 2012-13 season with three home games, two against teams that defeated Rider on the road last year, before taking part in the Hoops for Hope Classic.

"This is the first time I can recall in my six years at Rider starting the season off with three consecutive home games," Baggett said. "It is very important to protect home court so we will need to be ready if we want to get off to a good start."

Rider will try to avenge loses at Robert Morris and at Stony Brook and will also host Monmouth in November. The Stony Brook game, November 13, will be televised on ESPN as part of the Tip-Off Marathon.

The Hoops for Hope Classic begins for Rider at South Carolina, taking on the Gamecocks November 19.  The Broncs then travel to Southern Methodist to take on the Mustangs and new head coach Larry Brown on November 21.

"I am looking forward to playing South Carolina and SMU," Baggett said. "With both schools having new coaches I know those programs will be excited and ready to go under new leadership. Frank Martin did a great job at Kansas State and the legendary coach Larry Brown has been successful at every stop, college and the NBA."

The Classic shifts to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for two games, beginning with a November 24 game with Jacksonville.

After Thanksgiving Rider hosts La Salle November 29 before traveling to Drexel December 1.

After the two MAAC games the Broncs play a pair of Garden State rivals.

Rider defeated Princeton in 2002-03 before losing to the Tigers in overtime in Alumni Gym last season.

Rider also renews its intrastate rivalry with Rutgers. The Broncs defeated Rutgers during the 2007-08 season but lost to the Knights by four points in 2008-09 and in overtime in 2009-10.

"Playing Princeton and Rutgers our local rivals is always exciting for both our players and fans," Baggett said. "From our players prospective these are some of the guys they know and have played against in high school, and from our fans stand point they understand that these are two great programs with great tradition so they will need to come out and get behind us for both of these games."

All game times and the televised contests will be announced in the near future.

As always, all men's basketball contests will be video streamed on Bronc Vision and live stats will be available via GameWatcher.
