SOMERSET--Freshman Allison Muschs (Linkebeek, Belgium) of the Rider University field hockey team was honored as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday afternoon.
Muschs was honored for all games September 17-23.
Muschs was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after scoring on a penalty stroke in Rider's loss to perennial power Lock Haven as the Broncs went 1-1 this past week.
Muschs scored with 16:39 left in the game, cutting Lock Haven's lead to 3-2 before the Bald Eagles scored twice in the last 12 minutes for the final score.
Muschs also had a defensive save in the game.
Muschs has three goals for Rider (6-2) this season, all on penalty strokes.
"Allison is playing better each time out," said head coach Lori Hussong. "She is making adjustments to her game and is very important to our success."
This is the fourth week in a row that Rider has had a rookie earn the weekly NEC Honor with freshman goalie Alicia Carthan (Bordentown) recognized September 17, Rachel Ippolite (Woolwich Twp./Kingsway Regional) honored September 10 and Muschs recognized on September 4.
"We are really happy that our freshmen class has been able to contribute to our success so far," Hussong said. "They have had the luxury of learning from a talented group of upperclassmen."
In the 13 seasons under Hussong, this is the 41st time that Rider has had a conference Rookie of the Week honoree.
Rider travels to Lafayette on Tuesday evening. The game was originally started on September 7 and suspended due to lightning with less than seven minutes left in the opening half and the Leopards ahead 2-0.
