Broncs Host Owls Saturday Night
LAWRENCEVILLE-The Rider men's soccer team will host the Temple Owls Saturday evening at 7pm on the Ben Cohen Field. Saturday is also Alumni Day, and many former Bronc soccer players will be on hand to be introduced at half time.
Temple (3-3-1) defeated Saint Peter's and Howard before losing 1-0 to Philadelphia Soccer Six opponent Villanova on Tuesday.
Rider (0-7) and Temple are former East Coast Conference rivals. The two teams last met in 2010, with the host Owls winning 4-0.
Rider and Temple have met 31 times since the series began in 1961 with Rider winning five and there have been two ties. The last time Rider defeated Temple was 2000 and the two teams tied in 2001. Since then, Temple won 2-1 in 2007 and 3-0 in 2008.
Temple now competes in the Atlantic 10.
Following the Temple game the Broncs have one more non-conference game, Lafayette at home on Tuesday afternoon, before Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play begins.
"We gotta get a win," said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso.
MAAC plays begins with a road trip to Western New York, taking on Canisius October 5 and Niagara October 7.
"I think this tough non-conference schedule we have played, five out of seven on the road, will make us better," Inverso said. "We're playing a lot of freshmen (eight, at least five on the field at any given time) but we're looking at getting better for this year, not for future years. I guarantee we are going to turn this around."
Although the Broncs have scored just five goals this season, they have scored four in the last three games.
They will look to score more Saturday night against the Temple Owls.
