Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

LATHAM, N.Y.--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept at Siena College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Saturday afternoon.

The match was moved indoors in Latham, New York due to rain.

For the Rider men (1-4, 0-2 MAAC), senior Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) won four games at fifth singles before losing 6-3, 6-1 with senior Mike Gershon (East Brunswick) also winning four games at sixth singles before falling 6-2, 6-2.

For the Rider women (0-4, 0-3 MAAC), senior Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) won three games at first singles before losing 6-1, 6-2 with freshman Cynthia Vlad (North Hunterdon) also winning three games at four singles before losing 6-1, 6-2.

"Siena is a tough team," said head coach Ed Torres.  "They are very experienced and they showed that today.  Both the men and women, they hit the ball very hard with with accuracy and with the match being moved indoors, playing a hard hitting team was that much more difficult due to the faster playing surface."

The Rider women take on Marist in a MAAC match October 2 in Poughkeepsie.
