Rider's Lindsey Eligible Immediately

LAWRENCEVILLE-Even though the season opener is a month away, the Rider University men's basketball program has already chalked up its first major victory of the 2012-13 season.

Rider received word over the weekend that junior Nurideen Lindsey of Philadelphia will be eligible to play in the season opener against Robert Morris November 9.

Lindsey, a 6'3" guard, came to Rider from St. John's University, where he averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in nine games last season before transferring to Rider. Lindsey attended Rider in the Spring 2012 semester.

"The NCAA approved a legislative relief waiver that will permit him to compete for us, effective immediately, rather than sit out any additional games following his transfer from SJU last spring," said Rider Associate Athletic Director Greg Busch.

"I am happy that the NCAA has granted Nurideen Lindsey eligibility to be able to play at the beginning of the season," said first-year Rider head coach Kevin Baggett.  "Having Nurideen at the start of the season with his experience should help us to be able to compete with our tough non conference schedule."

A graduate of Overbrook High School, Lindsey attended Redlands Community College and earned First Team All-NJCAA Region II honors, averaging 22.3 points (sixth in the nation), 5.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

At Overbrook Lindsey compiled 1,315 career points in just three seasons. He averaged 35.8 points per game his sophomore and junior seasons to lead the Philadelphia Public League.
