Rider's Schneider NEC & ECAC Player of the Week
SOMERSET--Senior Marlaine Schneider (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) of the Rider University field hockey team was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for all games October 1-7 it was announced Monday afternoon.
Schneider was also awarded Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.
A 5-6 forward and team captain, Schneider had two goals and an assist for the week including the game-winner in overtime as Rider (8-4, 1-0 NEC) defeated Robert Morris University 5-4 on Sunday. Schneider gave Rider a 1-0 lead at RMU at the 13:50 mark of the first half.
"That's awesome," said head coach Lori Hussong. "Marlaine stepped her game up this weekend when we needed it the most."
Against Columbia on October 3, in a 3-2 Bronc loss, Schneider assisted on the first goal of the game.
Schneider has six goals and three assists this season and her 98 career points (33g, 32a) are 10th best on Rider's all-time scoring list.
Winners of 24 NEC regular season contests in a row, Rider travels to Connecticut for a pair of conference games, visiting Sacred Heart on October 12 and Quinnipiac on October 14.
"We are counting on Marlaine to be at her best as we continue through our conference play," Hussong added. "She worked hard this past weekend, played like a champion and gave our team the energy and leadership that we needed to get a positive result."
