Marist College 3 Rider University 1
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--Despite 15 kills and 10 digs each from juniors Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) and Megan Knott (West Caldwell/James Caldwell), the Rider University volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak snapped as Marist College defeated the Broncs Saturday afternoon.
"We were in every single set," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "We just made critical errors at the most inopportune times. To win on the road, there has to be a sense of urgency all of the time. You have to take care of every opportunity that presents itself and we didn't do that."
Marist won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
Senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) had 13 digs for Rider (9-9, 3-6 MAAC).
Marist visits Lawrenceville for the return match November 11.
"Bridget and Megan were phenomenal," Feliciano said. "The problem is that everyone has to step up and do their job. Bridget started off slow and then picked it up. And Megan was consistent throughout the match. I asked every player to make my job difficult in making the lineup for each match and Megan has stepped up and done that."
Former Northeast Conference rivals, Rider has won 13 of the 31 matches all-time against Marist. The Red Foxes swept the Broncs by identical 3-1 scores last season. The Broncs defeated the Red Foxes in two out of three matches in 2010 including a 3-0 win in the MAAC Championship Tournament and a 3-2 win in Alumni Gym that saw the Broncs rally from two sets down.
"We are a much better team than our performance showed today," Feliciano added.
Rider travels to Siena for a MAAC match on Sunday.
