Rider University 3, Saint Peter's University 0
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
JERSEY CITY--Led by 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks from sophomore Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) and 13 digs and 11 kills from junior Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist), the Rider University volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's University 3-0 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening.
"Bridget (Sheerin) played well for us," said head coach Christopher Feliciano who saw his Bronc squad double their win total from 2011. "Meghan (Bartsch) also played well. It was a nice, collective team effort."
Rider (10-10, 4-7 MAAC) won the match 25-21, 26-24, 25-18.
"We were flat the first two sets and we were down by four points late in the second set," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "But, we found a way to win and any win, especially on the road in this conference is a good win. We didn't give away a set and that growth is important."
Rider swept the season series, also defeating the Peahens 3-0 on October 7 in Lawrenceville.
This is Rider's first double-digit win season since 2005 when the Broncs won 11 matches and nine matches remain in the 2012 campaign.
The Broncs host Loyola Maryland on Saturday at 1pm in a MAAC match in Alumni Gymnasium. Rider lost to the Greyhounds in five sets on September 7.
The match will be Rider's annual 'Dig Pink' event to raise donations for the American Cancer Society.
"We wanted to build momentum going into the match on Saturday," Feliciano added. "While we didn't play well at times, we had the ability to overcome that and close the deficits we faced to get the win. We'll enjoy the victory tonight and get right back into the gym to prepare for Loyola this weekend."
