Rider University 3, Delaware State University 1
DOVER, Del.--The Rider University volleyball team rallied from one set down to defeat Delaware State University 3-1 on Thursday evening in Dover.
Rider (11-11) won 10-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23 over Delaware State (4-17).
"We are notorious for starting out slowly on the road," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "We came out flat but to their credit, we battled back and put ourselves in a position to win."
"Bridget was crafty tonight," Feliciano said. "She can hit for power and hit for points. She was well prepared for the match. She just played good volleyball, used her head and showed maturity. That is rubbing off on the other players."
"After the opening set, we kind of just took a deep breath and refocused on winning the final three sets," Sheerin said. "We just let the set go and started over, having a short memory. Ashlee (Amatulli) did very well getting me the ball and the coaches really gave me a solid game plan so I was really prepared for the match."
Senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) had 17 digs for Rider.
"We are still learning how to be relevant and play with consistency," Feliciano said. "A night like tonight is big because it is a road win and this really reinforces for the players what we have to do to win on the road, especially when we get back into conference play."
The Broncs host Canisius College on Saturday at 1pm in Alumni Gymnasium in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match.
"This weekend is big," Feliciano said. "You have two quality teams coming in and they will be prepared. The first time we played both of them, we feel that we had a legitimate chance to win the match and we want to put that same effort on the court this weekend."
