Rider Hosts Niagara, Canisius This Weekend

LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University volleyball team hopes to match the intensity of the upcoming 'Sandy' storm when the Broncs host Canisius and Niagara in a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches this weekend in Alumni Gymnasium.

Rider hosts the Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1pm, followed by the three-time defending MAAC champion Purple Eagles on Sunday at 1pm.

Coming off a come from behind win at Delaware State on Thursday, Rider (11-11) looks to move over the .500 mark and impact the race for the MAAC playoffs as both Niagara and Canisius are tied for 9-3 in conference play with six matches to go in the regular season.

Rider is led by senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) who leads the team and is 18th nationally averaging 5.44 digs per set.

Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) leads Rider in kills per set (2.57) and sophomore Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley)  is averaging 7.31 assists per set.

Rider lost at Niagara 3-1 on September 22 and Canisius defeated the Broncs September 23 in Buffalo by a 3-0 score.

For those unable to make the matches this weekend, free livestats (GameTracker) will be available on GoBroncs.com along with BroncVision, the pay per view video stream of Rider Athletics.

In addition, live tweets will be broadcast via Twitter by following @RiderAthletics.

While you are running out to get milk, bread and eggs, help the Broncs take the MAAC by storm this weekend by coming to Alumni Gym at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.
