Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LAWRENCEVILLE--Despite 16 kills each from senior Stephanie Nagy (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) and sophomore Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon), the Rider University volleyball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to the three-time defending MAAC champion Niagara University Purple Eagles on Sunday afternoon in Alumni Gymnasium.
Nagy hit .417 in the match with Webber adding 14 digs for a 'double-double'.
Niagara (14-10, 11-3 MAAC) won 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 in a match that featured 20 ties and nine lead changes, keyed by 22.5 points (out of 77) from Kari Honomichl who had four service aces and serviced six straight points in the second set and with Rider leading 23-21 in the third set, she served out the final four points.
"We had the match in hand," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "And we let one server beat us. Not taking anything away from Niagara but we had a great game plan and executed it at a high level. Having someone serving like that is hard to recover from but I'm proud of how we came out and played today."
Also for Rider (11-13, 4-10 MAAC), junior Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) had 13 digs and 10 kills with sophomore Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) adding 48 assists and 13 digs with each compiling a 'double-double'.
Senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) compiled 27 digs for Rider.
Niagara out-hit Rider .324 to .222.
The Purple Eagles also defeated Rider 3-1 on September 22 to sweep the season series.
"We need to be engaged 100 percent of the time," Feliciano added. "Not in bits and pieces. You got to see how much potential this team really has by the effort that they put forth today."
Rider travels to New Rochelle on November 1 for a MAAC match against Iona College.
