College Cross Country

18 Broncs MAAC All-Academic

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - A total of 135 athletes comprise the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Rider University had 18, the second most amount among the 10 MAAC institutions.

From Rider's women's team were sophomore Josephine Boyle (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington), senior Erin Fitzgibbons (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville), senior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), senior Paige McAtee (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), sophomore Emily Ritter (Milsboro, DE/Sussex Tech) , senior Jillian Shutt (Lawrenceville, PA/Williamson), senior Nicole Tassello (Suffern, NY/Suffern) and junior Katie Williams (Franklin, NJ/Wallkill Valley).

From Rider's men's team were sophomore Ariel Caceres (Union City, NJ/Union City), sophomore Anthony Dentino (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), senior Sean Donohue (Cliffwood Beach, NJ/Matawan), junior Billy Hackmeister (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville), sophomore Derek Lake (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush), senior Kurt Morrison (Deptford, NJ/Deptford), junior Anton Pokras (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), junior Matt Sampson (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan), senior Greg Wesh (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and sophomore Nasser Zayer (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's).

Caceres is an Accounting major with a 3.33 cumulative grade point average, Dentino, an All-MAAC performer, is a Secondary Education/Social Studies major with a 3.40.  Donohue, an All-MAAC performer, compiled a 3.40 as a Journalism major, Hackmeister is a Secondary Education/Mathematics major with a 3.46, Lake is a Business Administration major with a 3.25, Morrison is a Computer Information Systems major with a 3.35, Pokras owns a 3.33 as a Finance major, Sampson is an Accounting major with a 3.85, Wesh is a Business Administration/Marketing major with a 3.24 and Zayer is a Liberal Arts major with a 3.83 grade point average.

Boyle owns a 4.00 grade point average as a Global Studies major and Elgin, an All-MAAC performer, is a Liberal Arts major with a 3.86.  Fitzgibbons owns a 3.62 grade point average as a Elementary Education/Psychology major, McAtee, an All-MAAC performer, is a Journalism major with a 3.48, Shutt owns a 3.73 as a Communication major, Ritter is a Secondary Education/Biology major with a 3.74, Tassello owns a 3.87 as an Elementary Education/Psychology major and Williams is an Elementary Education major with a 3.36 grade point average.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

The Rider men and women both placed third in the MAAC Championships, with Dentino and Elgin both finishing fifth overall in their races.
