Season Finale Cancelled
MAAC Administrators Vote to Cancel Remaining Regular Season Schedule
EDISON, NJ-With a number of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference institutions dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the conference has altered the fall schedules in regards to competition this weekend.
You can see the attached MAAC press release for all the details. The only change that directly affects Rider, however, is the men's soccer game scheduled for Friday, November 2.
The Broncs were scheduled to host Loyola in the season finale at 7pm Friday and honor the graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony.
"It is a shame that we cannot play the final game of the season because we wanted our seniors to go out on a good note and we wanted to test ourselves against the top team in the conference," said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso. "However I understand the MAAC's decision and more than anything we are grateful that no one on our team or their families was injured during the storm and we keep all of those affected by the hurricane in our prayers."
Since the four men's soccer playoff teams have already been determined, the MAAC voted to cancel all remaining regular season games, due in part to field availability, coaches and student-athlete family issues, travel and safety issues as well as the state of emergencies called by various governing bodies.
The Broncs finish the season 3-13-1, 2-5-1 in the MAAC.
Rider is making plans to honor the men's soccer seniors at a later date, possibly at halftime of a basketball game. "We wish our seniors the best of luck," Inverso said. "They are a great group of guys and we really appreciate all of their hard work."
